In line with agricultural sustainability in Al Ain city

In the presence of His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, and as part of efforts to promote sustainability and innovation in the agricultural sector, the United Arab Emirates University announced the establishment of the Agricultural Experts Council. This initiative aims to merge traditional expertise with modern knowledge to support sustainable agriculture, while also emphasizing the agricultural legacy of Al Ain city.

On this occasion, His Excellency Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Acting Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, emphasized that this initiative is one of the key projects adopted by the University as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve sustainability in the agricultural sector. This important step serves as an impetus for contributing to the development and improvement of the agricultural sector by fostering a strong network between farmers and professionals. It also aligns with the 'Plant the UAE' initiative, which carries a future vision aimed at enhancing food security in the UAE through increased local agricultural production.

Dr. Mohammed Abdul Muhsen Alyafei, Acting Dean of the College of Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine, emphasized that the Agricultural Experts Council aims to serve as an active platform for transferring knowledge from experienced farmers to the younger generation. The Council focuses on developing skills to address modern agricultural challenges, with an emphasis on sustainability and preserving Al Ain city’s agricultural legacy. Additionally, the Council will provide specialized consultations on best practices to ensure the sustainability and adaptation of modern agriculture in response to ongoing environmental changes.

The Council will host training programs and workshops designed to empower youth and new farmers, helping them learn and apply modern agricultural practices. These programs will address key challenges such as water resource management, combating plant pathogens, and enhancing livestock production. Additionally, the Council aims to foster agricultural innovation by encouraging new ideas, research, and initiatives, while establishing an active communication network among farmers. It will also support environmental and agricultural tourism in Al Ain.
