The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU Holds “Research Day” Forum

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University, in collaboration with Medclinic Hospital-Al Ain, organized the "Research Day Forum" to showcase the research results of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty members, in the fields of medicine and health sciences, with a focus on their connection to artificial intelligence. Several universities and medical colleges in the country participated, with the presence of Prof. Fatima Al Jassmi, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Juma Al Kaabi, Vice Dean for College of Medicine and Dr. Mariam Al Harbi, Director of Clinical Research at Abu Dhabi Health Services "SEHA", Prof. Tariq Shadid, Medical Director and Consultant General Surgeon at Medclinic Hospital-Al Ain, as well as numerous experts, specialists, and students, in a distinguished academic and professional setting.

Prof. Fatima Al Jassmi emphasized that the event represents a platform for creativity, innovation, and the discovery of student talents. It also serves as an opportunity to recognize the efforts of students and faculty members in fostering a culture of scientific research within the college. She explained that scientific research is a means to achieve change and make a difference, highlighting that presenting research results in the fields of biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, and health sciences contributes to strengthening the concepts of leadership and excellence in research and innovation. She also pointed out the importance of various applications of artificial intelligence in developing medical and health sciences and how these technologies are reshaping modern medical practices to improve patient health and safety.

Dr. Mariam Al Harbi, Director of Clinical Research at Abu Dhabi Health Services "SEHA “, gave a comprehensive presentation on "The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Medical Field, with a Focus on Clinical Trials." She discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of medicine and the expected changes in medical practices due to these applications. She highlighted the great promise AI holds in transforming medical practice, though many of its practical applications are still in the early stages, requiring further research and development. She also emphasized the importance of enabling healthcare professionals to understand these advancements to ensure more advanced and efficient healthcare delivery.

Prof. Tariq Shadid, Medical Director and Consultant General Surgeon at Medclinic Hospital-Al Ain, presented a lecture titled "Medical Care from the Patient's Perspective," where he reviewed value-based care and the patient-centered approach as key pillars for improving the quality of healthcare. He discussed how educating patients and effective communication enable and empower patients, fostering their participation in their treatment journey. He also covered the impact of technological advancements in health applications and their importance in supporting a healthcare system that relies on modern technology for advanced medical care.

Students from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU participated in "Research Day" with 17 scientific and research presentations and 70 medical research posters, covering various medical specialties related to the applications of biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, and health sciences, under the supervision of faculty members and researchers at the college.
