CBE Welcomes AACSB Middle East Leaders to Campus
Mon, 6 June 2022

Prof. Geralyn McClure Franklin, dean of the College of Business and Economics, hosted two AACSB leaders at UAEU on 1 April 2015. Dr. Timothy Mescon, senior vice president and chief officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Dr. George Najjar, special advisor to the president for the Middle East and Africa, met with Prof. Geralyn to discuss the role of the CBE as the Middle East’s first accredited business school as well as how to expand the influence of AACSB in the region to ensure quality management education is available to support economic growth and prosperity. The AACSB representatives also met with Prof. Mohamed Albaili, provost, regarding the UAEU’s role in the region in terms of leadership in research, outreach, and ensuring quality academic programs associated with a comprehensive institution.
The CBE was first accredited by AACSB in 2001 and received maintenance of accreditation in 2014. This accreditation includes all undergraduate programs, as well as the MBA, MPA, and DBA programs. In 2012, the accounting program earned separate accreditation from AACSB. The Accounting Department was the first ever to make such an achievement in the GCC and MENA Region and the 10th worldwide outside the USA at the time.
Founded in 1916, AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by less than five percent of the world's business schools. As of April 2015, there are 727 institutions across 48 countries and territories that have earned AACSB Accreditation in business. Similarly, 182 institutions maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs. For more information, go to www.aacsb.edu.
