UAEU SURE 2015 Summer Research

Mon, 6 June 2022
United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) - Top Universities in Middle East
UAEU SURE 2015.

The research was conducted as part of the UAEU SURE 2015 summer research grant initiative, under the guidance of Principle Investigator Dr James C Ryan of the Department of Business Administration, College of Business  and Economics. The project was undertaken by several students of the CBE including postgraduate student Ms Hessa Mubarak Saeed Hamad Al Shamsi (pictured) and undergraduate students Klaithem Ali Saeed Hazeem Alsheryani (in picture ), Aisha Mirza Munawar and Fatima Mirza Munawar. The students worked very hard to identify the research publication records of all faculty members listed in the UAEU website from all Colleges. The information was extracted on a case by case bases from the SCOPUS database of research and then processed through a unique software package known as ‘publish or perish’. The results show how different ‘measures’ of research performance such as number of papers published, citations, and H-index  can be significantly biased by different publication patterns across academic disciplines, and by the age of faculty members. It also shows how a new measure of research performance known as the hIa (Harzing 2014) can compensate for some of these biases and offer a more accurate picture of research performance across different academic disciplines. These findings will be of significant interest to university policy makers and research managers.
