Under the slogan "Together Towards a Safe Society"

The College of Law of the United Arab Emirates University organized a seminar on the "Hemaya Center" to raise awareness of the harmful effects of drugs and their impact on the society on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, on campus at the male Information Technology auditorium, in the presence of Colonel Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Jassim Al Dabal, General Coordinator of the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program "Aqdar" and the "Hemaya" program, Dr. Mohammed Hassan, the Dean of the College of Law, faculty members and UAEU students.

Dr. Mohammed Hassan stressed that the United Arab Emirates University, according to its vision and mission to serve the community, contributes to raising the awareness of students to the dangers of drugs and their negative effects on the individual and society, culturally and economically. It does this by studying ways to combat this phenomenon and the related laws, procedures, and operations, by researching the latest studies in this field in order to enhance security in the society and protect the future generations, and through joint action with the concerned authorities to educate young people about the dangers of drugs.

Col. Dr. Ibrahim Al Dabal explained that the aim of this seminar is to introduce the student community to the "Hemaya" program, which is based on spreading awareness about the dangers of drugs and ways to combat them in 17 countries. It also educates the local, regional and international community on the dangers of drug abuse and the ensuing effects on the individual and society at economic, social and cultural levels.

The lecturer spoke about how to prevent drugs and the hidden war led by unidentified armies who seek to destroy societies through the drug trade He offered a comprehensive definition of the economic measurement indicators of its dangers, an explanation of the sale and promotion methods pursued by the market in various countries around the world and in the region, the methods of smuggling drugs into our communities and the resulting hazards that affect the economies of the region. He stressed the need to fight drug abuse by promoting the moral and cultural values to achieve security in society and raised awareness of its risks on the economic, moral and social levels.

On the sidelines of the seminar, the "Express Your Love for UAE" campaign of the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program "Aqdar" was launched under the supervision of the College of Law. This is the first of its kind in the State’s institutions, to activate the national student awareness document prepared by 50 federal and local authorities, in order to express love and loyalty for the UAE and its leaders in various forms through the participants’ special words that bear the number 45, in preparation for celebrating the 45th UAE National Day.
