In pursuit of excellence in research:
The Foundations of Education Department in the College of Education at the United Arab Emirates University organized a lecture on creating a distinct research identity on Wednesday, February 17th, 2016 in the Crescent Building Theater. Many faculty and students were present. This is part of the university's aim to strengthen its research identity and to prepare graduates to be leaders and pioneers in their fields.
Professor Bernard Oliver, Dean of the College of Education, said that this lecture aimed at developing the skills of educational researchers, faculty and students in order to allow them to communicate effectively with experts in this area so they can learn about the latest methods for building a distinct research identity.
Dr. Michelle Knight Manuel, from Columbia University in the United States, explained how to create a distinct academic research identity that reflects the values of the institution in question. This is important as each institution has its own values, geographical location, and role within the local and international community.
She detailed her professional and research background and discussed the ethical and practical consideration for researchers. She suggested encouraging and developing a sense of inquiry and curiosity from an early age and continuing that quest for knowledge through the various educational institutions.
