A team from the College of Information Technology (Hoda Al Hameidy, Bothainah Al Baiei and Mariam Salem Al Kaabi) under the supervision of Dr. Nazar Zaki won the best project award (oral presentation) at the Sixth Annual Conference on Undergraduate Research on Applied Computing (URC2014), Zayed University, Dubai. The project entitled CriNet: Tracking criminals activities using social network analysis gained considerable attention by the judges and attendees. CriNet is capable of tracking criminals activities by mining, analyzing and visualizing social networks. It is intelligent enough to detect the most influential individuals in the network and track their activities and connections. It is also capable of detecting criminal communities by quantifying the importance of each individual in the network using a solution adapted from Google PageRank algorithm. CriNet is expected to assist the law enforcement officials in the UAE to efficiently extract criminal information and track their activities.
