Four CIT students: Omar Abdullah, Sara Al Kendi, Mariam AlFalasi, Athra Alkhatri, advised by Dr. Saad Harous. Omar Abdullah s team won the second place.

The Annual NYUAD International Hackathon is a three-day programming marathon that was On April 14 to 19, 2016 in Abu Dhabi. Teams of talented computer science and related IT major students from all over the world (the majority of the students were from the Arab world), to create mobile and web applications. The teams developed innovative applications relevant to diverse fields such as HEALTH, education, business, and science for the benefit of social good in the Arab World.

Omar Abdullah participated with a team composed of members from national and international universities. His team is: Omar Abdullah (UAEU, UAE), Gonzalo Beviglia (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina), Zuhair AlSader (An Najah National University, Palestine), Hananah Ghibeh (University of Sharjah, UAE), Nizar Hawawreh (Palestine Technical University, Palestine), Harini Kannan (MIT, USA) mentored during the hackathon by Mike Clarke (CEO at Atlas IQ, USA), Leila Chan Currie (Software Engineer at YouTube, Canada). Omar s team worked on project called Sadiki/صديقي. It is a personal assistant for refugees.

Sara s team: Sara Al Kendi (UAEU, UAE)Alaa El Hariri (AUB, Lebanon), Alaa Daffalla (University of Khartoum, Sudan), Kyle Dhillon (Princeton University, USA), Lamia Benaouali (ESI, Algeria), Jomana Jamal (University of Jordan, Jordan), , Nadine Handal (Palestine),  Ali Aldarwish (Khalifa University, UAE) mentored during the hackathon by Mohamed Mansour (Software Engineer Lead at Microsoft, Lebanon), Fabricio Pontes Harsich (Software Engineer at Google, Argentina). Sara s team worked on project called Maktabti | مكتبتي. Maktabti makes reading more fun and interactive for kids.

Mariam s team: Mariam AlFalasi, (UAEU, UAE), Paula Dozsa (NYUAD, UAE), Batu Aytemiz (NYUAD, UAE), Terri Burns (NYU, USA), Manel Omani (ESI, Algeria), mentored during the hackathon by Dima Taji (Research Assistant at NYUAD, UAE), Piotr Galar (Software Engineer at Billy, Denmark). Mariam s team worked on MyReflection | انعكاسي. This app helps people reflect on their actions on Twitter to prevent online fights.

Athra s team: Athra Alkhatri (UAEU, UAE) Musab Ahmed Popatia (CMU, Qatar),  Anirudha Bose (International Institute of Information Technology, India), Joyce Zhang (MIT, USA), Hanan Tbaileh (An-Najah National University, Palestine), Moutaz Elias (University of Sharjah, UAE), mentored during the hackathon by Sama Kanbour (GE, Qatar). They worked on project called Manara (Beacon) | منارة which provides accurate count of a crowd at a heated event without political bias
