Invention Description

Silicon based semiconductors are limited by two factors, flexibility and cost. Therefore the demand for polymeric electronics has been rising where several attempts have been reported to produce conductive and semi-conductive polymers.
The invention is a method to convert nonconductive polymers into conductive polymers by doping such polymers with ionic liquids (bulk). In addition, the ionic liquids contribute to the mechanical and thermal properties of the polymeric blends. Of particular interest is the ability to modulate the electrical conductivity by controlling the amount of dopant concentration.

The novelty of doping nonconductive polymers with ionic liquid comes from:

  • The ability to modulate the degree of electrical conductivity

  • The ability to modulate the mechanical and thermal properties of the blends by controlling the concentration of the ionic liquid.
