For over 30 years the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD) has been involved in the delivery of professional development programs for higher
education administrators, both in Canada and around the world. In March 2015 CHERD,
in partnership with the United Arab Emirates University, Center for Public Policy
& Leadership, will be offering a three day professional development workshop targeted
to Heads and Chairs in higher education institutions.
Facilitated by a team of three experienced higher education administrators, you will have an opportunity to explore the following topics through a range of activities including presentations, case studies, simulations and discussion groups:
- Global and regional trends in higher education
- University governance
- Teaching, learning and engagement in higher education
- Definitions and models of leadership
- Emotional Intelligence
- Expectations of academic leadership
- Self awareness and choosing your appropriate leadership style
- Integrated planning
- Setting department goals and objectives
- Developing and monitoring KPIs
- Building a positive department environment and culture
- Sustaining internal quality control
Participants can also sign up for 15 minute private consultation with one of the facilitators. These consultations are held at the end of daily sessions
