Workshop Instructors

CHERD instructors are all experienced university administrators and workshop facilitators.

Kathleen Matheos is Associate Dean, Extended Education at University of Manitoba, Interim Director of CHERD and holds an adjunct position in the Faculty of Education; Adult and Higher Education. She has held administrative positions for over 30 years in both the college and university systems. Over the last decade she has facilitated training and professional development workshops in Canada, Africa, South America, Asia and the Middle East. She has also led a World Bank evaluation team reviewing open and distance learning.

Kathleen serves as the coordinator of the Collaboration of Online Higher Education Research (COHERE) and is on the executive of the Canadian Society of Studies in Higher Education.

 

Dr. Alan Davis is currently President and Vice-Chancellor of Kwantlen Polytechnic University a position he has held since 2012. Alan has a long career in higher education including a faculty member in chemistry, Director of University Programs at the Open Learning Agency, Vice-President Academic at Athabasca University, along with senior administrative roles at Vancouver Community College and Niagara College. Prior to joining Kwantlen he was President of Empire State College, State University of New York. He has delivered numerous guest lectures and keynote addresses about higher education, and served as president of the Canadian Society of Studies in Higher Education.

In addition to his academic publications and presentations, Alan is also a published playwright; his plays for young people have been performed across Canada.

 

Dr. David Kirby is the Director of the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development at the University of Manitoba. During the period 2004-2006 he also held the position of Acting Director of University Teaching Services.

Prior to his appointment at the University of Manitoba Dr. Kirby held a variety of academic and administrative appointments at Memorial University of Newfoundland, The University of Calgary, and Queen's University. In addition he served for three years on the Board of Governors of St. Lawrence College in Ontario.

Dr. Kirby teaches and conducts research in the area of higher education with a particular interest in the area of governance and conducts professional development workshops for CHERD.
