The currently applied urban regulations and planning guidelines in Al Ain city might not be fully responsive to the actual needs of the residents of the city, especially in the domain of recreational facilities provision that, if carefully defined, would play an important role in attaining socially, culturally, environmentally and economically sustainable and vibrant city. With the emergence of innovative recreational facilities that reflect the spirit of the current era and with the obvious unattractiveness of some of the existing recreational facilities, this study focuses on portraying a perspective about the actual recreational facilities needs for Al Ain city, mainly from the local community s point of view. This would help enhance the urban planning and design outputs to better reflect the genuine needs of the residents and, therefore, help create more responsive, attractive, and innovative recreational facilities. The study is conducted in two main phases: Phase 1 and Phase 2, each with two sub-phases A and B.
