In a collaborative effort the Al Ain City Municipality, the National Water and Energy Center and the Department of Integrative Agriculture at UAEU are conducting large-scale field experiments to develop water-saving landscaping practices. One of the experiments conducted in the Sulaimi park strives to assess the optimum input levels of fertilizers and irrigation water for eight different native desert plant species cultivated for landscaping purposes. The experiment comparing different species for their water and fertilizer input requirements. All tested plant species are grown either under a high, medium, low or very low level of fertilizer and irrigation water input. It is one of the largest scientific field trials ever conducted on the use of native plants for landscaping in the Region.
