Dr. Hesham El-Sayed

Dr. Hesham El-Sayed is a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer and Network Engineering at the College of Information Technology (CIT) in the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). He holds a Ph.D. in Systems and Computer Engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, and has an extensive background in both the academic and industrial sectors. Prior to joining CIT/UAEU, Dr. El-Sayed held various positions in North America at companies such as Wind River Systems (acquired by Intel Corporation), Paragon Networks (acquired by Dell), and Nortel Networks, where he led the development of middleware and networking solutions for a wide range of devices. His contributions have had a tangible impact on the performance of real commercial products, leading to winning several prestigious awards.  

Since joining CIT/UAEU, Dr. El-Sayed has led several consultancy, research, and technology transfer projects, securing over 6 million dirhams in research grants. He has published over 110 referred publications in reputable international journals and conferences and received multiple research awards. His current research focuses on intelligent transportation systems, autonomous driving, vehicular networks, and trust management. 

As the Chair of the Department of Computer and Network Engineering at CIT, Dr. El-Sayed is responsible for leading the development of the department's teaching, research, and service activities, ensuring that these activities support the college in achieving its strategic goals. He has played an instrumental role in the development and accreditation of several academic programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and the Master of Science in Internet-of-Things. Additionally, he has initiated several important activities, such as the Industry Connect Event, to help students build bridges with the IT industry and develop their own self-learning capabilities and interest in technology and development. He has also made significant contributions to various committees at UAEU and CIT, serving as the Chair of the Performance Review Committee for the Dean of the College of Business and Economics. He is a member of the CIT College Council, the UAEU Peer Evaluation of Teaching committee, the UAEU Excellence Awards and Allowance committee, and the UAEU General Education Committee. Dr. El-Sayed has been recognized for his exceptional potential and leadership qualities by being chosen to participate in the prestigious LEADERS OF THE FUTURE program at UAE University. 

Dr. El-Sayed's professional contributions extend beyond CIT/UAEU. He has served on the steering, organizing, and technical program committees of many conferences and workshops, and has served as an external referee, examiner, and evaluator for dissertations, research grant proposals, and awards for various institutions, including University of Malaya, Sultan Qaboos University, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, and Rashid Bin Humaid Award for Culture and Sciences.
