Outline of the General Education Model (38 - 42 Credit Hours)*
Cluster 1: Values to Live By (6 Credit Hours)
Required:
- Islam [ISLM 1103 Islamic Culture] (3 Cr. Hrs.)
Choose one course from this area:
- Ethics [from a list of approved courses] (3 Cr. Hrs.)
Cluster 2: Skills for Life (9 Credit Hours)
Choose two courses from the first area and one from the second area:
- English Communication Skills [from a list of approved courses] (2 courses – 6 Cr. Hrs.): One course emphasizing academic writing plus one emphasizing spoken English. For 2016 cohort onwards, the spoken English course is replaced by University 101 Information Literacy course.
- Thinking Skills [from a list of approved courses] (3 Cr. Hrs.)
Cluster 3: The Human Community (11-12 Credit Hours)
Required:
- HSS 105 Emirates Studies (3 Cr. Hrs.)
Choose one course (3 Cr. Hrs.) from each of the following three areas:
- Social and Behavioral Sciences [from a list of approved courses]
- Humanities/Fine Arts [from a list of approved courses]
- The Global Experience [from a list of approved courses]
Cluster 4: The Natural World (9 Credit Hours)
Choose one course (3 Cr. Hrs.) from the first area and two from the second:
- Mathematics and Statistics [from a list of approved courses]
- Natural Sciences [from a list of approved courses in Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Ecology, Food Science, Nutrition, Animal Science, Marine Science, etc.]
Cluster 5: capstone Experience (3-6 Credit Hours depending on the specialization program)
Every program must include an approved capstone experience. Normally, the capstone would conclude at the end of the student's senior year.
