WHO CC Work Plan
As a WHO CC, the DNH has developed a list of activities to meet it's specified Terms of reference (ToRs):
1. Activity One: Capacity Building for the WHO Growth Charts
Expected Outcome(s):
- Conduct workshops to generate a pool of facilitators at a regional level who will be able to replicate the training course at a national level, as well as advise local authorities on the application of the WHO growth standards.
2. Activity Two: Salt Intake Reduction Campaign
Expected Outcome(s):
- Dietary salt reduction and regular physical activity leading to reduced prevalence of rates of hypertension and related health problems, such as heart disease.
- Better insight into the current salt consumption pattern of the UAE nationals.
- Appropriate recommendations to the UAE policy makers on strategies for improving food choices and physical activity of Emirati citizens for the prevention of diet related chronic diseases.
3. Activity Three: Nutritional aspects and consumer's awareness of food labeling in the United Arab Emirates
Expected Outcome(s):
- A baseline data on the situation of the food labeling of products manufactured in UAE will be available may be for the first time in the UAE as no such study was done before. Moreover, the study will be an opportunity to grasp the attention of the consumers in UAE to the importance of reading the food label to take the right decision when buying prepackaged foods.
4. Activity Four: National nutrition survey in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Expected Outcome(s):
- To assess nutritional status based on WHO growth standards in children aged 0- 60 months
- To assess nutritional status based on the WHO reference in children and adolescents aged 61- 228 months (5- 19 years)
- To assess child motor development (walking alone) in children aged 6-24 months
- To assess child feeding practices in young children 0-24 months
- To assess micronutrient status, i.e.: vitamin A, iron, iodine, zinc and folate
