Undergraduate Teaching

The Department engages the clerkship program for medical students for a duration of eight weeks.

At the end of the clerkship, students will have acquired the:

• Knowledge to understand women’s health, puberty, child-bearing period, menopause, normal and abnormal processes concerning the female reproductive system e.g. pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, discharge, infections, infertility, pregnancy, labour, delivery and the puerperium.
• Clinical skills to:
  • Assess the normality of the reproductive health, pregnancy labour and puerperium of a female patient.
  • Initiate and participate in appropriate evidence-based and cost-effective clinical management of common conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with other health care providers through consultations, referrals and presentations.
• Attitude that will enable him/her to:
  • Practice medicine humanely and ethically
  • Treat patients with respect
  • Relate with colleagues respectfully
  • Seek to continually improve clinical knowledge and skills
  • Respect prevailing rules and regulations
  • Engage in a successful self-directed learning.

Postgraduate Teaching

The department offers Professsional Clinical Diploma in Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology. The programme is run by the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, College of Medicine & Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University in collaboration with Women’s Health Institute, Al Ain Hospital, Al Baraha Hospital (Dubai), and Umm Al Quwain Hospital (Umm AL Quwain). This course is aimed at medical practitioners, obstetricians and radiologists, who wish to receive accredited training in obstetric ultrasound. The aim of this course is to allow trainees to develop advance obstetrical scanning skills (abdominal and vaginal) and to gain experience and knowledge in all aspects of obstetric ultrasound in the management of normal and abnormal pregnancy. This will include sufficient breadth and depth of understanding of pregnancy problems.
