Workshop Description
Plagiarism in research is a serious ethical violation that can undermine academic integrity, damage reputations, and lead to severe consequences for researchers. This two-hour online workshop, titled “Plagiarism in Research: Consequences and Mitigations,” is designed to educate graduate students on the various forms of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, direct copying, paraphrasing without attribution, and inappropriate citation practices. The session will also cover the academic and legal repercussions of plagiarism, ranging from manuscript retractions and academic penalties to long-term professional setbacks. To ensure an interactive and engaging learning experience, the workshop will include live demonstrations of plagiarism detection tools such as Turnitin and iThenticate. Participants will learn how these tools work, how to interpret similarity reports, and how to credit sources to avoid unintentional plagiarism appropriately. By the end of the workshop, attendees will clearly understand plagiarism and its consequences and gain skills to ensure academic integrity in their research endeavors.
