Master Students in Horticulture Visited the Emirates Hydroponics Farm in Abu Dhabi

As part of the lecture on vegetable production systems, students of the horticultural Master programme went on an excursion to the Emirates Hydroponics Farm (EHF) in Abu Dhabi on December 14th together with Dr. Elke Gabriel. In hydroponic systems, plants are grown in a liquid nutrient solution instead of soil. This technique can reduce the greenhouse space and the amount of water required for the production of vegetables. Mr. Rudi Azzato, the Marketing Director of the EHF provided the students with a very interesting insight into the operation of the hydroponic systems at his farm, He also explained how the production processes and economy of his farm differ from conventional farms where plants are grown in soil.
