FIT Welcomes its second batch of Ph.D students
On September 27, 2010, the University Vice Chancellor, Dr. Abdullah Al-Khanbashi,
met with the new Ph.D. students who joined the various Faculties this semester. He
conveyed the Chancellor's greetings and wishes for success, and advised the students
to make the most of the university's resources in terms of research expertise among
the faculty as well as the breadth of available facilities and library resources.
He asked students to be proactive in their research and graduate studies. The Provost,
Dr. Wyatt R. Hume also congratulated the students on their achievements to-date and
wished them success. Several deans and a number of faculty and staff members also
attended the meeting.
Out of the 17 Ph.D. students newly admitted to the UAE University this Fall, four
are joining FIT. All of the new Information Technology Ph.D. students are UAE nationals.
Asma Ibrahim Al-Bloushi is one of the new FIT students. In the Q&A part of the meeting
with the Vice Chancellor, she mentioned that her acceptance in the Ph.D. program in
Information Technology at the United Arab Emirates University is a very important
opportunity for her, that an opportunity that needs to be seized to advance the research
profile of the UAE. All students agreed on the uniqueness of the opportunity extended
to them, which spared them from the alternate choice of travelling overseas to complete
their studies. Noura Al Baloushi, another new FIT Ph.D. student, who completed her
Bachelor degree at Zayed University followed by an MBA at Ajman University, said that
her continuous quest for knowledge at a higher level motivated her to apply to the
Ph.D. program in IT. She said she was encouraged to apply by the research environment
and standards of the UAE University at general, and particularly the academic level
of FIT faculty in terms of their research record and international recognition. She
added that her ultimate aspiration is to serve the nation to the best of her ability
upon completion of her Ph.D. studies.
