April 23, 2011-Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of UAE University, the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) organizes the seventh International Conference on Innovations in Information Technology (Innovations’11) to be held jointly at the College of Information Technology, Al Ain, and Radisson Blu hotel in Abu Dhabi on April 25-27, 2011. Innovations 2011 brings together eminent research scientists and leading professionals from the IT industry to discuss the latest developments at the forefront of information technology and its applications in the service of society. Conference participants include scientists from universities and industry from around the globe. Innovations 2011 is technically sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE is a nonprofit organization that is the world's largest professional association for the advancement of technology) and financially supported by local partners from the government and industry sectors including Abu Dhabi and Dubai Water and Electricity Authorities (ADWEA and DEWA), Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) and Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
In addition to the excellent collection of peer-reviewed research papers that will be presented at the conference, Innovations 2011 will feature an outstanding set of keynote presentations. Distinguished speakers include: Dr. David L. Cohn, Program Director of Smarter Cloud at IBM’s T. J. Watson Research Center, in New York (USA), Prof. Mostafa Ammar, Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology (USA), Prof. Athman Bouguettaya, from the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (Australia), Prof. Vittoria Colizza, from the Institute of health and medical research (France) and Prof. Josef G. Davis, from the University of Sydney (Australia).
Keynote presentations are tailored to current and future research developments in evolving areas of Information Technology. As a representative of IBM’s Smart City Strategy and Solutions for sustainable cities, Dr. David L. Cohn will highlight the improvements in quality of life and economic well-being that could be achieved through applying Information Technologies to planning, designing, building, and operation of city infrastructures. Many countries are actually rapidly moving towards a services-based economy, encompassing not only services that we typically associate with basic computing technology, such as information processing infrastructure and user applications, but also societal, governmental and industrial applications to support the evolution towards smart cities. Rapid advances in technology have propelled this evolution. Dr. David L. Cohn’s keynote addresses several aspects of this transformation, with emphasis on the design and delivery of services in the societal and governmental domains, such as next-generation healthcare, services for smarter governments and smarter cities.
Prof. Moastafa Ammar will focus in his keynote on Internet growth from its networking infrastructure aspects. Traditional Mobile Ad-Hoc networks assume stable end-to-end paths. However, Prof Mostafa emphasizes Intermittently Connected Network (ICN) paradigm, where intermediate nodes may store data while waiting for transfer opportunities towards the destination. Prof. Athman Bouguettaya will highlight in his keynote the current developments of the Web as the preferred delivery platform of service-based solutions. Prof. Vittoria Colizza, will present recent progresses in the field of modeling infectious diseases used to predict the impact of a disease on the population, and test a variety of intervention strategies. She will also illustrate the application of the proposed model to the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. Finally, Prof. Josef G. Davis will refer in his keynote to the aggregation/selection of useful information from the World Wide Web (WWW) from a potentially large number of people connected to the Internet. He introduces the concept of ‘crowdservicing’, which builds on the evolving foundation provided by Web 3.0 or the Service Web.
The 2011 conference program is structured into six tracks:
• Information and Communication Technologies
• Information Security and Cryptography
• Computing and Embedded Systems
• Web Technologies and Web Services
• Data Mining
Further details about the conference and its program are available in the conference website: www.it-innovations.ae The Innovations 2011 Conference is organized by the College of Information Technology of the UAE University and has constantly received strong support from local industry and government sectors. Generous support this year has come in the form of sponsorships from such highly respected organizations as the Abu Dhabi Water and electricity Authority (ADWEA). Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA), Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) and Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
