EPFL President meets FIT faculty
<pstyle="text-align: justify;">Februray 8, 2011- Prof. Patrick Aebischer, President of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) visited FIT to explore common research initiatives and academic exchange options.
Prof. Patrick Aebischer, President of EPFL (?cole Polytechnique F?d?rale de Lausanne), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology since 1999, has met with FIT faculty representatives to explore research collaborations and initiate student and faculty exchange programs. Several areas of common interest emerged during the meeting, which was also attended by Franco Vinglioti, Dean of EPFL Middle East Campus (currently established in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE). Nanotechnology, high-performance computing as well as renewable energy, were among the areas, which found to match mutual research interests. Bidirectional student exchanges and mutual co-advising of postgraduate students were also discussed, as well as the prospects of faculty exchanges between FIT and EPFL. The President of EPFL pointed out the strategic position of UAE University at large both geographically and demographically, and the unique focus of FIT research particularly, as appealing indicators for future strong ties between the two institutions.
