Bus Passenger Origin-Destination Data Collection and Analysis Service in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi
The purpose of this study is to ensure that DoT provides quality bus services that meet the needs of the bus users and which is also consistent with the DoT s enabling legislation by Understanding the characteristics of the bus passengers, particularly passengers travel patterns and desire lines.
The overall aim of this research study is to assess the travel characteristics and origin‐destination travel patterns of passengers using the existing bus routes through a survey of the riders.
Special points of the study
- Development of a socio-economic and trip characteristics survey questionnaire.
- Design a survey methodology to carry this survey.
- Conducted surveys in a total of 99 routes according to the following breakdown
- Development of a database which contains all the survey responses.
- Sample size is determined as 324 per route.
- The survey is designed in such a way so that can be carried out throughout a whole week to ensure the variations of weekdays and weekends. Moreover, it also considers the hourly variations (peak/off-peak).
A series of surveys and observations from an agreed sample of end users (riders) of the existing bus services as specified above. The surveys are:
- Surveys of passengers using the services along the existing local bus routes in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain City.
- Surveys of passengers using the services along the existing regional bus routes in the three regions of the Abu Dhabi Emirate.
- Surveys of passengers using intercity services between major destinations.
Main outcomes
- Main objectives were obtained and addressed.
- The study was successful in conducting 16559 questionnaire surveys upon which a database is created.
This study analyses the database comprehensively and presents the information in this report.
