Master of Genetic Counseling
The MSGC program is a 2-year graduate program which has been developed to meet the standards of similar programs internationally and genetic counseling accreditation/registration and credentialing bodies. The MSGC will align with and network with international programs to ensure that UAEU graduates will be considered world class genetic counselors. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to be licensed as Allied Health Professional as per the scope of practice published by the DoH.
The MSGC stands as pioneering initiative within the esteemed College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at the UAE University marking a significant milestone in the realm of genetic education and healthcare in the region.
Program Objectives
- Deliver graduates equipped with genomic knowledge with the necessary skills to understand and analyze genomic medicine in current and future clinical practice.
- Prepare competent graduates with the needed genetic counselling skills, clinical practices, and enhanced education abilities and meet the immediate and growing need for the genetic counselors.
- Promoting research and ethical skills in national genetic-related priority areas contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Apply genomic principles in a clinical setting to provide accurate risk information to individuals and families impacted by a genomics.
- Convey clearly and efficiently the genomic health information to a variety of audiences including patients, peers, and non-genetic health professionals.
- Provide psychosocial support to individuals and families while advocating for and promoting informed decision making.
- Apply ethical and privacy principles in all interactions, especially in clinical and research settings.
- Conduct collaborative research to improve knowledge, practice and understanding of genetic counseling.
